About our client AH&MRC:
Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) is dedicated to assisting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) across the four regions (Metropolitan, Northern, Southern and Western) of NSW to ensure they have access to an adequately resourced and skilled workforce enabling the ACCHSs to provide their local Aboriginal communities with holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care and Aboriginal health-related services.
About the role of AH&MRC’s Chief Executive Officer:
This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Role.
The AH&MRC Chief Executive Officer will be directly reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors and will be responsible for the overall success of the AH&MRC and the outcomes that it delivers for our Member Services. The position also plays a critical leadership role in achieving the strategic and operational objectives of the AH&MRC by being the key connection between the Board of Directors, Member Services and the range of key stakeholders that support, fund and use the services provided by it.
Key Accountabilities:
- To ensure the organisation is a leader in delivering efficient and effective business operations, risk management and financial performance.
- Establishment of core organisational values in conjunction with the Board of Directors and ensuring these values are reflected in all aspects of the organisation and communicated to all stakeholders.
- Creating, implementing and maintaining high quality and service performance standards and developing systems to build key relationships and improve operational efficiency.
- Responsible for overseeing all functions within the organisation and providing direction and guidance to the organisation as a whole.
- Ensure and contribute to the operational and strategic decision-making process and provide authoritative advice to the Board of Directors in relation to operational matters and organisational performance.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor or Masters level) in Business Management, Administration, Governance, Leadership, Finance, Health or related discipline.
- Formal training via the Australian Institute of Company Directors (or similar) in relation to Board Governance and the obligations of the Board, Directors and Chief Executive Officer.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at a Chief Executive Officer level in a comparative health sector organisation which has worked with a Board of Directors, including the management of all compliance and reporting obligations and requirements.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in leading and managing work teams.
- Exceptional knowledge and strong understanding of health issues impacting upon the health status of Aboriginal communities.
- Extensive experience in ensuring an effective management system, policy and procedure framework and financial system for an organisation.
- Excellent commercial and financial acumen, including the ability to establish and implement operating forecasts and budgets and work within them to deliver the intended outcomes.
- Extensive experience in translating strategy and work plans into tangible and realistic roles and responsibilities for all team members.
Essential Requirements:
- Confirmation of Aboriginality.
- Ability to hold a National Police Check.
- Ability to travel State-side, Nationally and Internationally as required.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to model and develop the cultural and service centred approach that is required of a membership based organisation.
- Proven ability to think and act strategically to deliver against Strategic Plan and annual Business Plan objectives and positively engage with a range of stakeholders in order to build strong relationships to get things done.
- Ability to efficiently, effectively and appropriately delegate responsibilities and accountabilities to others.
- Ability to understand and engage in the management of business risk and to develop targeted mitigation strategies and reporting frameworks to ensure that the reputation, investment and interests of the Board and AH&MRC members are protected.
- Demonstrated high level stakeholder engagement and management, including working with and lobbying Federal, State and Local Governments, Government Agencies and private sector entities.
- Proven ability to provide value adding Member centred services and advice.
- Proven ability to attract and retain a high performing work team to provide quality services to their clients/members.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the local community.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
