Communication with Purpose

We’re looking for a full-time Communications Officer to join our team in Tenterfield, NSW.

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll lead and deliver Council’s communications and engagement strategies. You’ll play a key role in keeping our community informed, promoting Council initiatives, and ensuring our voice is clear, confident, and aligned with our values.

Your core responsibilities will include:

- Planning and implementing Council-wide communications and marketing strategies

- Developing internal communication frameworks and media messaging

- Responding to media enquiries and preparing press releases, speeches, and editorial content

- Managing Council’s social media, website, and digital communication platforms

- Producing newsletters, community updates, and corporate publications

- Coordinating media support and promotion for Council events and initiatives

- Supporting economic development messaging and public relations projects

- Providing timely and accurate information during emergency situations

- Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to align communications

- Tracking media activity and reporting on relevant issues impacting Council

- Enhancing Council’s public image and ensuring consistent branding

Who We’re Looking For – A Voice for Community Connection

You’ll bring a Degree or Diploma in Communications, Marketing, or a related field, along with 3–5 years’ experience in communications, media, or marketing — ideally within government or community-focused sectors.

To succeed, you’ll also bring:

- Proven experience in communications strategy and content development

- High-level written and verbal communication skills

- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building ability

- Proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, and social media platforms

- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities

- A valid Class C Driver’s Licence

- Australian work rights

We’d also love if you bring:

- Experience in local government or public sector settings

- Understanding of community engagement practices

- Familiarity with web content management systems

- Skills in media relations, event coordination, and corporate publications

- The ability to stay calm, constructive, and solution-focused under pressure

As the ideal candidate, you're not just a communicator — you’re a storyteller, a strategist, and a bridge between Council and community. You care deeply about accurate, timely, and respectful information sharing, and you understand the impact of strong communication on trust, transparency, and civic engagement.

Benefits That Back You

In return for your talent and commitment, you’ll receive a competitive salary of $76,232 – $86,964.80 p.a. + 12% superannuation, aligned with your qualifications and experience.

Our broader employment offering includes:

- 15 days accumulative annual sick leave

- 4 weeks accumulative Annual Leave

- 9 Day Fortnight

- Relocation assistance and short-term Rental subsidy may be made available

- Further learning and development opportunities

- Access to onsite monthly counselling through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

- Access to Health and Wellbeing programs

Ready to Make Your Mark?

This is more than a job – it’s a role where your words, stories, and strategies will strengthen the connection between Council and community.

If you're ready to lead meaningful communication in a town with big heart and bold ambitions, we’d love to hear from you.
