The Waste Support Officer will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable waste management practices through both educational outreach and operational management. This position involves developing and implementing waste awareness programs, managing daily waste services, and ensuring efficient waste segregation and recycling. The successful candidate will work closely with shopping centre management, tenants, and contractors to foster environmentally responsible waste practices. This is a full‑time permanent role with a week‑by‑week rotation between Robina and Loganholme shopping centres.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Educate tenants on correct bin use
- Deliver engaging waste education sessions
- Drive best‑practice waste management
- Partner with centre management to boost waste awareness
- Lead daily waste operations at loading docks
- Inspect bins and storage areas for compliance
- Ensure proper sorting of waste, recycling and organics
- Maximise recycling and minimise contamination
- Resolve waste issues and emergencies fast
- Coordinate waste services with contractors
- Contribute to meetings on waste education and awareness
- Achieve KPIs and provide timely reports
- Champion safety and follow all procedures
- Audit tenant waste to find landfill diversion opportunities
- Bale cardboard, plastics and other recyclables
What You Bring
- Experience in teaching, education, waste management, recycling, or environmental services is highly desirable
- A clear communicator, confident working with tenants and staff. This is critical to your success in the role.
- Organized, reliable, and detail oriented
- Able to work independently and solve basic problems. This is a highly autonomous role that requires a highly self‑motivation person.
- Familiar with or open to learning about waste and recycling
- Aware of general workplace safety
- A background or studies in environmental science, sustainability, or education is a plus
