Overview

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated professional to fulfil the requirements of a leadership role, heading up an engagement team based in Kimberley, in the Eastern Kimberley Region, WA. You will be leading a diverse team and engaging with First Nations communities and service providers to deliver outcomes in line with community aspirations on behalf of the Australian Government.

The successful candidates will be responsible for implementing and delivering a range of government initiatives and commitments that support and improve the wellbeing of First Nations Peoples.

As an Engagement Director you will be responsible for:

Responsibilities

- working across large regions within the Kimberley
- working with the Assistant Engagement Director to set priorities for Engagement Officers to achieve objectives
- build, maintain and leverage relationships across governments and service providers to work locally with First Nations peoples to maximise economic and social development in the region
- driving the implementation of the Empowered Communities model in the Kimberley Region through close engagement with internal colleagues and the relevant Empowered Communities backbone organisation
- developing effective strategic partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders including First Nations peoples, community partners, business and organisations
- managing stakeholder expectations of the NIAA work program, priorities and program change, considering local and cultural sensitivities and stakeholder business imperatives
- leading and supporting employee performance and contribution to regional results
- providing strategic advice and specialist expertise across a broad range of activities including community engagement, customer service delivery, policy development and culture.

- the ability to treat NIAA staff and stakeholders with respect and courtesy; facilitate cooperation and partnerships to deliver corporate outcomes; nurture relationships by building organisational and inter-agency networks; identify and facilitate learning opportunities for self and others; exemplify management of underperformance
- the ability to act professionally at all times and operate within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal and public policy constraints; work within and promotes NIAA's values; demonstrate personal risk by challenging important issues constructively; stand by own position and supports others when required; persist and focus on achieving objectives in challenging and highly complex situations; be an effective organisational representative in all forums and interactions with senior stakeholders
- be able to communicate tailored information and messages confidently, with demonstrated cultural competence; understand the audience, anticipating reactions and be prepared to respond; approach sensitive and complex negotiations with deliberate consideration; seek support of key stakeholders in advance; be well prepared to negotiate persuasively to deliver a final outcome that is mutually beneficial.

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or relevant work experience is desirable.

A current Australian driver’s license is a requirement.
