We are now seeking a Senior Power System Engineer to join our high-performing team and contribute to a variety of critical projects across Australia's evolving energy landscape.

Position: Senior Power System Engineer

Location: Melbourne, VIC

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting advanced power system studies and simulations to evaluate integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) such as solar PV, wind, and battery storage into the grid.

• Leading the grid connection process for renewable projects, from feasibility studies through to final commissioning, ensuring compliance with national and state regulatory standards.

• Developing and refining control and protection strategies for power electronics and inverters, addressing challenges such as fault ride-through, reactive power support, and synchronisation.

• Designing and implementing protective measures and mitigation strategies to enhance system stability and resilience during grid disturbances.

• Overseeing and coordinating pre- and post-commissioning testing, ensuring that operational and regulatory requirements are met.

• Preparing and presenting technical reports, compliance documentation, and client deliverables in a clear, professional, and solutions-focused manner.

• Creating and maintaining programming scripts, software tools, and modelling systems to improve accuracy and efficiency of power system analysis.

• Driving innovation and continuous improvement by introducing new methodologies, tools, and procedures based on project learnings and client feedback.

• Building and maintaining strong client relationships, representing GridWise at meetings, and identifying opportunities to expand service offerings.

• Supporting business development initiatives by contributing technical expertise to proposals and tender submissions.

• Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and professional growth are encouraged.

Salary: $125,000 – $135,000 + Superannuation

Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week

• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate engineering concepts into client-friendly language.

• A proactive and detail-oriented approach, with strong project management capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field).

• At least 1 year of professional experience in power systems, grid connection, or renewable energy integration.

• In-depth understanding of power electronics-based inverter technology (IBR), power electronics, and associated control systems.

• Sound knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER), particularly Chapter 5, as it pertains to IBR technologies.

• Proven experience with power system simulation software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and PowerFactory.
