The District Clinical Coding team translates diagnoses and procedures documented in the medical record into codes. This data is used for a variety of purposes including funding, planning, research, disease surveillance and
quality activities. The team ensures that services are up to date and in compliance with the National Coding Advice and Australian Coding Standards.
An opportunity has become available for an experienced professional with extensive clinical coding and training experience. The District Clinical Coding Coach will service as a mentor to Trainee & Intern Clinical Coders who are engage to code health care (paper/electronic) records on site from a practical perspective. The role will be responsible for the work allocation of the team from a bank of de-identified training records and other suitable live records. This includes marking the trainees/interns clinical coding based on the pre-assigned codes and independently recode and provide feedback to the Clinical Coder Trainee/Intern based on the ICD-10-AM diagnoses and procedure(s) codes.
In this position, you will help ensure compliance by auditing a minimum of 20 coded records per week of each Clinical Coder Trainee/Intern to assess each of their competency level. Upon completion of each review, you will ensure that appropriate and constructive feedback is provided to Trainees/Interns in order to promote a positive learning environment.
The ability and commitment to travel to all facilities within NBMLHD is required for this role.

**What you will bring to the role**:

- Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management (or equivalent qualification), or completion of a recognised clinical coding course (HIMAA,OTEN) and/or relevant experience, with a commitment to ongoing skills and competence
- High level of experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM and ACHI with a thorough understanding of the Australian Coding Standards
- Demonstrated experience in training of clinical coders
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to mentor staff
- Demonstrated ability to organise tasks, assign priorities and meet deadlines with mínimal supervision
- Demonstrated computer skills including experience using Patient Administration System/eMR and extensive experience using 3M Codefinde
- Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between Clinical Coding, Casemix, DRG classification systems and Activity Based Funding/Management Models
