Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery.

The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families.
Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.
This imperative position situated within Drug and Alcohol Services, Nepean Hospital provides specific and complex mental health and drug and alcohol assessments, nursing treatments and referral in accordance with relevant mental health guidelines and best practice standards.
The incumbent will possess specialist knowledge regarding mental health and drug and alcohol specific assessments, clinical and nursing treatments, and referral process and psycho- education interventions and will participate in clinical reviews and allocation meetings.
This role will see you represent the team in implementation of clinical service development on delegation from the NUM and provide mentorship and clinical leadership to nursing and staff and other health professionals whilst gathering information to identify the consumer/carer experience and identify changes for implementation This position is based within the Safe Assessment Unit (SAU).
There is a focus on delivering evidence-based clinical interventions within best practice models of care to achieve good clinical outcomes for consumers, their families and carers.

What you will bring to the role: Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
Post-registration qualifications in Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol Nursing with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience working in a Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol speciality area or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
An understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care and the ability to implement those within clinical practice utilising their clinical expertise with the ability to work independently.
Commitment to champion, educate and lead a multidisciplinary team to improve consumer outcomes as part of a team Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and a diverse range of health care providers Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making abilities according to best practice Demonstrated commitment to clinical practice development Ability to work independently with minimal supervision maintaining involvement within the wider multidisciplinary team Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
