**About the Department**:
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources and our broader portfolio are integral to the Australian Government’s economic agenda. Our purpose is to help the government build a better future for all Australians through enabling a productive, resilient and sustainable economy, enriched by science and technology. We do this by:

- Growing innovative & competitive businesses, industries and regions
- Investing in science and technology
- Strengthening the resources sector.

**About the team**:
The move towards net zero emissions is a significant driver of Australia’s evolving economy. Building industry capability and securing supply chains is dependent on our ability to decarbonise.

This transition comes with enormous potential for Australian businesses and communities. It also presents challenges as important, but emissions intensive, industries transform to meet targets and community and market expectations.

Our team is tackling key policy challenges facing industry and specific sectors with large decarbonisation and transformation agendas. We are looking for motivated, dynamic and analytical thinkers to support our work on net zero, climate and energy related issues as they relate to Australian industry and global markets.

This work includes:

- Supporting the transformation of energy-intensive industries, which will be essential to meeting Australia’s emissions targets, while maintaining global competitiveness.
- Thinking strategically about how we reach the Government’s 2050 emissions targets and respond to support industry in response to net zero policies around the world.
- Analysis and advice on regions and industries impacted by economic change, including the opportunities and impacts of the move to clean energy and a net zero economy on communities, industries and businesses.
- Influencing whole-of-government climate and energy policy issues including energy transition, energy prices, circular economy and the Powering Australia suite of programs.
- Developing Australia’s manufacturing sector and working across the department and with other agencies on Government measures supporting this.

**The opportunity**:
The Government has established clear targets and priorities to achieve net zero emissions and combat climate change.

The work of the Industry and Manufacturing Division plays a critical role in supporting the objectives set by the Government working closely with Ministers and across Government.

In developing strategic advice to Government you will undertake in-depth analysis of industry sectors and individual companies, develop a strong understanding of Government initiatives to achieve net zero, and influence the industry measures to reduce emissions while building the economy.

**What’s in it for you?**:
You will have a chance to work on the front-line of Australia’s net zero ambition - working across the department, other Government agencies, businesses, and communities to achieve net zero and transform the economy. You will have opportunities to delve into complex and topical issues, work with supportive teams, and contribute to high quality policy analysis and advice.

Critical thinking and problem solving.
- Ability to think creatively and work constructively on complex problems, including under limited supervision.
- Complex data analysis drawing on multiple sources that supports an evidence base for advice to Government.

Influencing diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across government to influence policy development.

Leadership
- A proven ability to lead work programs and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic and flexible environment.
- Enthusiasm with an eagerness to learn.

For some roles, any of the following would be well regarded but is not required.
- Background, understanding or interest in global markets, energy technologies, economic policy, regional development, industry and/ or energy policy
- Ability to communicate complex ideas and data to a non-technical audience, including through visual design
- Capabilities in project management, complex public consultation, governance or data collection and analysis
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, particularly liaison with industry representatives

**What you will do**:
We have a range of opportunities in our Division covering multiple skill sets in policy development, data analysis, stakeholder engagement and strategic advice to Government. We want to hear from you your experience, strengths and capabilities in your key area of interest.
- Providing leadership, guidance and mentoring in your team for junior staff.
