**Where you'll be working**
Health Protection NSW works to prevent exposure to, and minimise impact of, infectious and environmental hazards. HPNSW works closely with public health units in local health districts in the development, implementation and evaluation activities to protect public health.

**About this role**
Within the Population and Public Health Division, Health Protection NSW is responsible for the prevention and control of threats to health from communicable diseases and the environment in NSW. HPNSW provides leadership and guidance to a network of public health units, conducts surveillance of notifiable diseases, and coordinates the response to state-wide outbreaks.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Heath Protection NSW, the Medical Advisor is responsible for providing cross-branch technical expertise and medical leadership in relation to health protection issues. This senior role works closely with Directors to provide public health advice and input into effective prevention, surveillance, assessment, and management strategies for health protection issues.

**Selection Criteria**
- At least five years postgraduate experience, qualifications in medicine (with current AHPRA registration) and qualifications or relevant experience in public health or other relevant discipline.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, and experience interpreting and presenting complex information rapidly and accurately to a range of audiences, including senior executive, the media and the public.
- High level knowledge and experience in the development, implementation, management and evaluation of health policy, programs and information management and surveillance systems.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including demonstrated ability to provide successful leadership for teams and projects.

**COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy**
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
