**Where you'll be working**
The Office of the Chief Health Officer is a dynamic branch responsible for a diverse range of portfolio areas. We support patient-centred health outcomes for NSW, through the delivery of trusted, timely, evidence-based advice on and support with population health policy, strategic priorities and emerging public health issues.

The Career Medical Officer will work with branches across the Population and Public Health Division to support emerging priorities.

**About this role**
The Medical Adviser is responsible for providing high-level technical expertise and senior medical leadership in relation to the portfolio of the Chief Health Officer, including critical incidents, other issues of public health concern and priority public health projects. The officer delivers medical and epidemiological expertise and informs complex data analysis and performs critical appraisals to support the Chief Health Officer.

**Selection Criteria**
- Qualifications in medicine (with current registration in NSW) and public health or other relevant discipline.
- High level understanding and extensive knowledge of the development, implementation and management of health policy, programs and information management and surveillance systems.
- Substantial knowledge and experience of health data collections and the use of data to manage and monitor policy and programs.
- Demonstrated high level capacity to set and manage competing priorities and to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Medical leadership skills and experience in providing high level policy advice and recommendations on complex clinical and population health issues at executive level.
- Excellent risk assessment, mitigation and communication skills, especially between the community, clinicians and population health personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience in scientific writing and a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Excellent teamwork skills, including working collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of the Chief Health Officer and other Population and Public Health Branches.

**COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy**
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
