**About the Hospital**:
North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS)

This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra’s Northside.

The current North Canberra Hospital is a level 4 hospital that provides a range of acute and sub-acute services including community based care to the residents of the northside of Canberra and Southern NSW. North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra’s expanding northside. North Canberra Hospital operates a 24 hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health and critical care.

Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.

The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it's business as usual at the NCH, and we'll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.

**About the role**:
The Ward Services Officer (WSO) position provides support to the clinical staff and provide assistance with patient care. The North Canberra Hospital is a 24-hour service that operates daily including weekends and Public Holidays. These positions are to assist with patient manual handling, clinical support service and transport throughout the hospital campus and Calvary Private, and to assist in code responses

**The WSO team as part of the patient journey will ensure the correct patient is collected for transported while following the transport procedures maintaining patient privacy, confidentiality and safety.**

**You will**:

- Answer and attend all pagers. Top priority given to:

- a. Code Blue Medical Emergency
- b. Code Black Personal Threat
- c. Code Red Fire
- d. Code Yellow Internal Disaster
- e. Code Brown External Disaster
- f. Code Orange Evacuation
- g. Code Yellow Internal Disaster
- Assist in the safe manual or mechanical lifting and movement of patients, including the safe patient transport throughout the hospital campus, and maintain appropriate infection control.
- Assist nursing staff with pre-operative male shaves.
- Transport medical equipment as directed in all areas of the hospital and perform after hours courier duties as specified.
- Assist with mortuary duties such as the releasing, identification, viewing and placement of deceased persons.
- Assist in general ward housekeeping including dirty linen removal and equipment cleaning.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new recruits throughout all areas of the Hospital excluding operating theatres.
- Undertaking other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section.

**Requirements/Qualifications**:
**Desirable**
- Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control Processes within a healthcare facility.

Knowledge of Ward Services Officer duties and understanding of the Patient Support Services commitment to client services and outcomes.
- Ability to work Monday to Friday at 76 hours a fortnight as required within all areas of the Hospital.
- Hold a current driver’s licence.
- The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional weekend and after-hours work.
