**About us**

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

**About the role**

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) temporary opportunity in our Refugee Service based at Fairfield. The Refugee Service provides state-wide legal advice, education, assistance and representation to newly arrived refugees in all civil and family law matters.

The purpose of this role is to engage with newly arrived refugees and refugee communities. This includes fostering and maintaining positive relationships with clients and external stakeholders such as service providers and community-based organisations. The role is also responsible for understanding and assisting in the identification of the legal needs of refugee communities, developing and delivering community legal education on a range of issues relevant to refugees, contributing to the production of resources, and working collaboratively with Refugee Service team members to provide a holistic legal and non-legal response to the complex needs of newly arrived refugee clients.

**About you**

The successful applicant will be a client-focused team member with the ability to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds. They will have demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with relevant stakeholders and service delivery partners.

They will have demonstrated experience conducting community education sessions. They will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to manage complex client situations in a sensitive, culturally appropriate and trauma informed manner. An understanding of the legal system or experience in the legal field would be an advantage.

They will have experience working with refugee communities (or other vulnerable communities) and with internal and external stakeholders, including community organisations working with refugee communities (or other vulnerable communities). The ability to communicate in a language commonly spoken in refugee communities - such as Arabic or Dari - would be an advantage.

The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

**The essential requirements for this role**
