About us

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of role

Business Platforms contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies. The team provides system management and oversight of the human capital management and disaster management platforms. The team also contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions to build and retain an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce, and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery of contemporary, best practice for both platforms. These include SAP SuccessFactors, Aurion, Time and Attendance, and Noggin.

Reporting to the Manager [Systems], you will be responsible for providing high level confidential administration services and business support, to meet the functions of the unit. You will set priorities and monitor workflows to manage the functions of Human Resource (HR) Systems including records and database management, monitoring for compliance with departmental policy and procedures. You may also be required to assist team members with human resource and finance administrative functions to ensure the efficient and effective service delivery in monitoring and management to meet branch objectives.

- Knowledge or experience in the use of human resource, finance systems and database management.
- Knowledge or understanding of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) ticketing solutions.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Respond to HR Sytems support requests received via online and phone, including transfer of requests from Technical Support, ensuring all incidents and support requests are logged and dealt with in a timely manner.
- Provide a high level administrative support, with attention to detail, including assisting in the preparation and coordination of correspondence, reports and other materials in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external customers to provide accurate advice and support on best practice utilisation of systems, keeping within the department's policies and guidelines.
- Maintain strong computer skills, including word processing, use of spreadsheets and databases to create, update, analyse and report on unit activities, and ensure compliance with QFES policy and procedures.
- Provide efficient and accurate data entry in human capital management database (SAP) to support the provision of HR services.
- Prioritise workload effectively and perform duties responsibly in the absence of supervision, using initiative to identify and resolve administrative issues and provide recommendation for continuous improvement.
- Maintain information retrieval systems to ensure effective maintenance of records and access to information.
