**Position Information**:
Verona School is a school for specific purpose with locations in Fairfield East and Canley Vale. Students from Year 5-12 engage in a range of learning opportunities tailored to meet their individual and diverse needs. The school has capacity for up to 98 students across both campuses and supports students with behaviour disorders, emotional disturbances, mental health and autism. Students remain shared enrolments with their mainstream school with integration being an important part of our school program. The Assistant Principal Special Education at Verona School is responsible for supporting the learning, wellbeing and individualised programs for our students and leading a whole school team in line with our whole School Improvement Plan.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience supporting students from Year 5-12 with additional needs
- Demonstrated experience managing the needs of complex students with diagnosed disabilities including behaviour disorders, emotional disturbances, mental health and autism
- Evidence of building and maintaining positive, inclusive, trusting relationships and partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies, and the wider community including census schools
- Ability to support students to engage in a wide scoping curriculum including mainstream curriculum, Life Skills, Distance Education, TAFE and other alternate pathways
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
