**The opportunity**:
**Key duties**:
In this role you will be expected to:

- Conduct experiments involving various techniques such as Western blotting, qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and histology to analyse molecular and cellular aspects of inflammatory pathways and oxidative stress.
- Utilise animal models, particularly mice, to investigate cardiovascular-related research questions.
- Assist in the design of experiments and independently perform experiments, including animal handling, tissue culture and primary cell isolation.
- Derive bone marrow-derived macrophages and perform functional assays to study their role in the context of inflammatory processes.
- Perform critical analyses of scientific literature relevant to the research and incorporate relevant findings into experimental designs and interpretations.
- Guidance in the research effort of junior members of the lab.
- Contribution to the preparation of research proposal submissions to funding bodies.

**Skills and experience**:
You will have:

- Academic knowledge of a health science discipline, such as public health, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pathology, dental hygiene, medicine or medical technology.
- Experience in research conduct, analysis and preparation of research output.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, which enable the appointee to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at a variety of levels internal and external to the Baker Institute.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and participate positively in a team.
- Well-developed negotiation skills, including the ability to negotiate priorities and manage conflicting demands for resources.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to take initiative and to improve and enhance existing systems and procedures (quality assurance).
