Coming off the back of a highly successful FY22, Cyara is continuing on its growth path. We're looking to bring in a seasoned, hands-on, **API Tech Lead - Backend Engineering** to join our existing team in Melbourne or Sydney. This key role will see you leading the development and delivery of internal and external customer-facing API's for an Agile team. You'll need to demonstrate good technical understanding, communication, and collaboration skills to design, develop and deliver end-to-end solutions. The specific team you’ll be leading is responsible for pioneering a modern technology stack through experimentation and collaboration with our Architecture Group. You need to feel comfortable with the unknown, driving new ways of working and being the compass for the team from a backend perspective. You'll also be collaborating with a front-end leader and forge a path for other teams to follow your footsteps.

**Let's talk about the role responsibilities**:
No two days are ever the same with Cyara and the work is varied. You'll work collaboratively as part of a team and your main responsibilities will include:

- Hands-on development and conducting/enforcing development practices such as design and code reviews
- Creating technical designs, including API service specifications and message models, by working closely with Technical Leads and Architects
- Reviewing business and non-functional requirements to capture and understand project requirements
- Providing Technical Support during Development, Testing, and Deployment of projects
- Leading Developers across multiple teams collaboratively towards the desired technical design
- Conducting pro-active, regular communications with Leadership and Product Management Teams on status, changes or issues
- Providing input on estimates for project efforts
- Providing input to Architects in the form of option assessments and Proof of Concepts
- Working with Architects to deliver elements of architecture deliverables as defined on a case by case basis.
- Performing root cause analysis, efficient production support and maintenance/enhancements for existing Services/APIs and take ownership of the API layer

**Let's talk about your skills/expertise**:
Other than having a strong hands-on, Technical Lead and API background, ideally your skills will also include:

- 4+ years' technical leadership expertise where you were mentoring and providing guidance to Developers within an engineering team
- Deep understanding and experience with Cloud architectures, specifically AWS around container management, clusters, auto-scaling, blue/green deployments (iPaaS/SaaS) - Azure and GCP knowledge is a plus
- 5+ years' development experience using.NET Core, XML, Node.js; REST/JSON, GRPC, GraphQL, Swagger or equivalent
- Experience in “API First” development with extensive experience designing APIs for both internal and external customers
- Strong expertise with documentation to be used by internal developers, customer development teams, and internal quality assurance team
- Hands-on experience with TDD (Test Driven Development)
- Production experience with API Gateways, such as: AWS API Gateway, Kong, or similar
- Experience in implementing security and identity protocols such as OpenID, TLS, OAuth, SAML, SSO, PKI (encryption and key management), REST/SOAP
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

**Nice to have (but not essential)**:

- Experience working in Telco, customer experience (CX), IVR, speech/voice recognition is advantageous
- Experience with modern web front end technologies (React) within a technical lead or architect capacity
- Experience in a Technical Lead or Architect capacity within a technology transformation project
