For a First Nations Engagement Officer to join the team at Mas National. Located in Southeast Melbourne, this is a new role to continue our journey towards reconciliation.

Mas National is a non-for-profit business, part of IntoWork Group and well regarded as an Industry Leader providing high quality Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) services. At Mas, we pride ourselves on the high quality service and support we have delivered to our Apprentices, Trainees and Employers across Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland for over 20 years.
We have a new exciting opportunity for a First Nations Engagement Officer to join us in Southeast Melbourne to continue our journey towards reconciliation. This role will be responsible for building relationships across the community, improving awareness of Indigenous culture and issues, working on projects in support of First Nations Australians.
**About the role**:
As a First Nations Engagement Officer you will help to build relationships with community members, cultural leaders, businesses, and service providers, in order to understand what is happening in the community, improve cultural awareness and to support locally led development and projects.
You will be responsible for identification, development, implementation and delivery of culturally appropriate initiatives and services that will add value to, and increase awareness, engagement and access and utilisation of Mas's services within the First Nations Australian communities.
**About you**:
You will have the following background:
- Prior experience or at a minimum demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse young people, communities, staff and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.
- Experience in the VET and Community sectors (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal history, traditions, organisations and network.
- Strong understanding of Australian First Nations history, protocols and significant people and events.
- Demonstrated capacity to build confidence and motivate participants, and act as strong role model for indigenous young people.
- Demonstrated strengths in problem-solving and critical thinking, coupled with sound judgement and ability to interpret policy.
- Demonstrated experience delivering training and presentations to a range of participants including young people and service providers.
- Well-developed knowledge of youth engagement strategies and experience working with Aboriginal youth, including early intervention in youth mental health in a youth services setting.
