About the role
Eastern Health is now recruiting for Mental Health Prequalification Employment positions across the Mental Health and Wellbeing Program. The Mental Health Pre-Qualification Program is designed to support pre-registered Allied Health students (Social Work & Occupational Therapy), while undertaking study in their specific discipline; to observe the work which is done by mental health clinicians, but also observe the skill of being able to develop a therapeutic working alliance with the consumers and families who use Eastern Health Mental Health Services.
This position is open to pre-registration Social Workers and Occupational Therapists, wishing to expand their clinical practice experience in the mental health setting whilst being mentored by senior clinical staff. The position works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse Professional. The Pre-Qualified Employee practices as an assistant to the health professional team, assisting and supporting the team to provide delegated aspects of patient care.
About you
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
**Essential**:
**Currently completing**:
Bachelor/Masters of Allied Health Sciences - Occupational Therapist (Second year and above undergraduate student in 2024); OR
Bachelor/Masters of Allied Health Sciences Health - Social Worker (Second year and above undergraduate student in 2024);
Strong interest in mental health and well-being and a career in the mental health sector.
Currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment (and able to provide evidence)
Able to undertake N95 mask fit testing prior to or at commencement of employment
Well-developed interpersonal skills, clear communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work as a team member and contribute to team decisions, as well as the willingness to take advice and direction.
An interest in understanding the range of issues experienced by people experiencing mental illness, those presenting with high level needs, and a commitment to helping meet the needs of consumers and families/carers.

Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, hospital or aged care facility
