Surry Hills, Australia ActionAid Australia Full time

About this position:
ActionAid Australia is looking for 1-2 passionate Group Coordinators to lead and organise the ActionAid Activist Groups in Melbourne and Sydney. Group Coordinators will work closely with the ActionAid Policy and Campaigns Team and the broader ActionAid Activist Network. Group Coordinators oversee their local ActionAid Group and its respective activists to organise and campaign to achieve impact in their communities.

About ActionAid:
ActionAid Australia is part of a federation working in 70 countries to advance women’s rights and end poverty and injustice. It supports women on the frontlines of injustice overseas and campaigns in Australia to advance climate and economic justice for women, working to shift government policy and corporate practice that undermine the rights of people living in poverty.

Building our people power through local ActionAid groups is a key part of ActionAid’s strategy. ActionAid’s analysis is that existing systems keep women trapped in poverty and injustice, and we need to campaign, organise, and act in solidarity to shift systems so they support gender equality and justice.

Time Commitment:
2-4 hours per week. Minimum 12 months commitment.

**Location**:
Melbourne/Sydney (both face to face and online).

Roles and responsibilities:

- Working with the Community Organiser and the Activist Support Volunteer to coordinate your local ActionAid activist group.
- Checking in and reporting back to the Community Organiser on a monthly basis.
- Organising and leading regular Activist Group trainings, planning sessions, and meetings.
- Supporting the local group to set objectives and roles to support coordination (e.g., secretary, well-being coordinator), make campaign plans, and project manage and organise actions within a limited budget that help advance campaigns.
- Receiving updated campaign strategies and plans and informing local group members.
- Identifying and developing activists who can be potential leaders in their community. This includes scheduling calls to reach out to new interested volunteers and working alongside the Activist Support Volunteer to grow the local group through one-on-one conversations.
- Managing volunteering enquiries and conducting inductions with new volunteers.
- Tracking the engagement, meetings, events and actions of your local group.
- Working with the Community Organiser to identify potential leaders and handing over to the next Group Coordinator when transitioning out of the role.

Selection Criteria:

- A time commitment of 12 months, up to four hours a week.
- A passion for community organising and building people power in communities across Australia.
- Confidence with interviews and intentional conversations with new volunteers to commit them to action (support will be provided).
- Some experience in volunteer coordination (although not necessary).
- New activists should be able to count on you for regular check-ins via phone/Zoom calls, introducing them to ActionAid Australia and support with challenges.
- Respect for ActionAid’s independence and an ability to work within this ethos.
- A demonstrated commitment and passion for women’s rights; and adherence to the principles of feminist leadership.
- The flexibility to work face to face and digitally.
- Have the self-drive and initiative to organise actions and local events to campaign on ActionAid campaigns on climate justice for women and economic justice for women.

We will offer trainings and inductions to well equip you for your role as Group Coordinator. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the Campaigns and Policy team, and gain exposure into campaigning and organising.
