**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
**About the Role**
A School Administrative Officer provides administrative, financial and student welfare/wellbeing support and assistance in relation to office and classroom activities, including but not limited to the following school settings: the office, sick bay, library, science laboratory, and food technology/kitchen areas
**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training.
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
- Administration skills including a knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with teachers and students.
- Ability to perform tasks in one or more of the following areas: office procedures; accounting procedures; sick bay; hospitality and /or design and technology; science.

Biraban Public School is situated on the western side of Lake Macquarie on Awabakal land. The school has a current enrolment of 158 students, 38% identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and 7% English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD). Biraban has a Family Occupational and Educational Index (FOEI) of 153 and receives significant funds to support literacy and numeracy for all students. The school has a staff of 30 including an Aboriginal Identified Student Learning and Support Officer, an Educational Paraprofessional and a School Chaplain. YMCA delivers before and after school care during the school term and full time vacation care during school holidays.
The school has strong links with Mankillikan Aboriginal Education Group (AECG) and Nikinpa Aboriginal community centre. We work closely with the community to improve the education of Aboriginal students, across a broad range of key educational measures, to improve, match or better those of the broader student population, while maintaining cultural identity. The school is a part of a successful learning alliance with schools in our community and external partners. There is evidence of a strong partnership with a highly active P&C consisting of parents, caregivers and the wider community.
