**The Role**
The Program Contracting Officer will require the knowledge and experience necessary to perform complex contracting work within an integrated workforce of APS, Military and Contractors. It will require a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

Within the Program Sustainment team, this position will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct assessments and perform procedural and clerical support work. The team will interpret and provide advice within the contracting function based on legislation, policy and procedures to enable Special Operations modernisation.

You will work collaboratively as part of the broader Defence team and be expected to confidently and articulately represent the interests of Special Operations Command within the broader Defence environment. You will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development as well as identifying opportunities for on-the-job training.

The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace.

It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.

**About our Team**
Special Operations Command has an opportunity to join an integrated team of APS, Military and Contracting staff as a Program Contracting Officer. This diverse workforce uses Defence’s policies, procedures and resources to support the modernisation of equipment, information systems and estate employed by Special Operations Command. This role will contribute to the Command’s modernisation program and ensure it delivers capability designed to contribute to joint effects. It ensures Special Operations capabilities are sustained and modernised in accordance with the One Defence Capability Life Cycle.

This team will support Special Operations Command’s ability to be agile and adaptive in the rapidly changing technological environment through the provision of specialists capable of acquiring, certifying and sustaining designated Special Operations capabilities. Through a modernisation led approach, this role will ensure that capabilities are aligned to strategic priorities and the Special Operations Command’s modernisation and innovation agenda.
- Be able to work in an operationally focused, high tempo organisation with flexibility and agility with the ability, under limited direction, to prioritise assigned workflow and contribute to the team.
- Have, or demonstrate the ability to acquire, a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
- Be capable of interpreting and providing advice within the contracting function based on legislation, policy and procedures.
- Have the ability to manage, in collaboration with internal and external organisations, in-year and future forecasting for multiple budgets supporting complex capabilities.
- Be a clear and concise communicator with the ability to effectively engage and support executives, staff and external stakeholders at all levels, and represent the organisation at forums as required.
