about the role
Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Federal Government Affairs Advisor to join the Policy, Government and Public Affairs team. Reporting to the Government Affairs Manager, this permanent role will be based in Canberra at a designated office at Servcorp next to Hotel Realm.
The role will provide advocacy advice for engagement with Federal Government Ministers, Opposition, political staffers, elected officials, and other key stakeholders on Chevron Australia’s current and potential interests.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with Ministers, Opposition members, political staffers, government officials, industry association representatives and other relevant external stakeholders.- Developing and executing advocacy and issue management plans to engage on key policy issues, legislation and regulations affecting Chevron.- Proactively identifying, researching, and analysing emerging and existing Federal policy issues, legislation and regulations affecting Chevron.- Preparing responses and submissions on policy and regulatory issues to Federal government, including engagement with industry associations.- Providing political context and counsel to the business in terms of the Federal government environment.- Playing a key role in Chevron Australia’s government affairs team to help shape the strategy and engagement that supports our business activities and interests.

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:
- Ability to think strategically and see the big picture, identifying trends and changes in the external environment.- An understanding of Federal government regulatory and legislative processes.- Experience working for a government agency, regulator or for a Member of Parliament.- Extensive experience in issues management and providing advice to senior business leaders.- Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results.- Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to deliver high quality verbal and written policy advice to a diverse audience.- Ability to work independently, identify priorities and manage risk to deliver high quality advice in a timely fashion.- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in public policy, science, business, economics, or related field.- Demonstrated commitment to Chevron’s values of integrity, partnership, and trust.
