This is a unique opportunity to join DPI Fisheries in an entry level Fisheries Officer (Identified) role and be part of a team protecting the fisheries resources and aquatic habitat of NSW for current and future generations. We will provide you with the on the job training you will need to undertake fisheries compliance activities. As an Aboriginal Fisheries Officers you will also exchange information and provide advice to other Fisheries Officers and the Coordinator of the Aboriginal Fisheries Officer Program.

You will be joining the Fisheries Compliance Unit within the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Fisheries. This team is responsible for administering fisheries laws governing the fisheries resources of the state. The teams spend a significant number of hours on patrol, detecting and preventing illegal fishing to reduce risk to fish stocks and aquatic habitats. **What you would be doing**

The role of a Fisheries Officer is to ensure all fishers are complying with fisheries rules, advising and educating where appropriate, and taking compliance actions?where?required,?to protect our fisheries and aquatic resources. Check out our video on a day in the life of a Fisheries Officer, In addition you will undertake the following tasks:

- Compliance activities including surveillance and evidence?collection
- Prepare evidence, offence reports, briefing notes and correspondence
- Present evidence in court
- Liaise with clients, members of the public and external?stakeholders
- Assist with the development of operational?plans
- Participate in patrols and larger operations often in remote areas on land and?water
- Design and implement educational programs to increase knowledge and understanding of

issues and legislation amongst commercial and recreational fishers
- Undertake routine maintenance work of equipment and materials
