Working as a member of the Office of Employability and Work Integrated Learning, the Industry Engagement Consultant engages with industry, business and community members regarding student and graduate employment opportunities and engagement with the University's Work Integrated Learning Program.

This role will operate via a Hub and Spoke model, spending time both with the College of Health, Medicine and Well Being at Callaghan and the Office of Employability and Work Integrated Learning's workspace at the Ourimbah Campus.


This includes but is not limited to:

  • Identifying new opportunities for students to engage with industry
  • Proactively leading the engagement and development of networks with business, industry, and community partners with the goal of promoting benefits of recruiting students
  • Influencing and providing specialist advice regarding recruitment
  • Providing specialist advice and recommendations regarding appropriate community partners for new Work Integrated Learning opportunities.
  • Coordinating and participating in employment and employability campaign promotions.
  • Building and influencing relationships across college and divisions relating to industry engagement matters.

About the Unit


The Office of Employability and Work Integrated Learning supports enterprise-wide career learning and employability development projects for University of Newcastle students and alumni.

The team's activities are steered by the goals of the Life Ready Graduates strategy within the Looking Ahead Strategic Plan.


What we offer
The remuneration for this position is from $91,259 p.a. +17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.

  • A degree with at least four years' subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide authoritative advice on recruitment practices and work integrated learning policy.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an interdisciplinary way of working.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and bring together people from different areas to participate in School/Division or University wide Employability and Work Integrated Learning initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and as an effective team member contributing to goals of the portfolio.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
