The role you could play

In this role as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker you would be providing cultural support to participants of the Brisbane AOD Centre. This includes; increasing referral pathways and access to Indigenous Elders and Indigenous organisations, leading discussion within the management team to strengthen culture in service delivery and contributing to the broader agenda of cultural capability at the state level.

Key responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Centre Managers to enhance their cultural competency and improve the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at AOD sites across QLD
- Provide support and/or input to the clinical team to ensure case plans address cultural needs
- Develop strategies and timeframes to engage and communicate the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework elements at a site level
- Connect and network with Indigenous organisations, increasing access and referral pathways for Indigenous participants
- Keep abreast of national and state policies and regulations that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

This is a permanent full-time position, located in Red Hill, QLD. Salary and conditions with the SCHADS Level 4 Award.
- To perform this role it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991._

- Relevant degree and experience or less formal qualifications with specialised skills
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people and ability to influence leaders in this space
- Experience in dealing with complex and diverse issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and methods of providing culturally appropriate solutions
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- A national criminal history check (to be completed in the recruitment process)
