Why this role matters
The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug services. We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types (including residential treatment centres, community-based support programs, counselling, and withdrawal management services).
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven First Nation's Engagement Worker who will, work collaboratively with Centre Managers to enhance their cultural competency and improve the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at AOD sites across QLD, provide cultural support to participants of the Brisbane AOD Centre. Increase referral pathways and access to Indigenous Elders and Indigenous organisations and lead discussion within the management team to strengthen culture in service delivery but also contribute to the broader agenda of cultural capability at the state level
You will successfully
- Contribute to, source and/or develop appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources and training.
- Lead &/or support Yarning or Learning Circles that align with the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework elements.
- Conduct regular inspection of site to ensure it is culturally safe.
- Provide support and/or input to the clinical team to ensure case plans address cultural needs.
- Develop strategies and timeframes to engage and communicate the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework elements at a site level.
You will have
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Relevant degree and experience or less formal qualifications with specialised skills.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people and ability to influence leaders in this space.
- Experience in dealing with complex and diverse issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and methods of providing culturally appropriate solutions.
This is a permanent, part-time (15.2hrs per week) position located in Red Hill, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Level 4 Award.
