Working as part of the water team, the Water Project Officer will play a key role in the planning and delivery of water management and monitoring projects and initiatives while providing high quality customer service and advice in response to water related matters. Good community engagement skills are required to effectively work with a range of stakeholders including volunteers, community and industry, to deliver key board water projects, including management and protection of Great Artesian Basin Springs and adoption of best practices for water resources and use. The successful applicant will also have strong project management skills to support these projects and demonstrate an understanding of sustainable water resource management.

Located in Adelaide, this role also has a regular presence in Port Augusta, and requires remote distance outback driving and overnight absences.

The Water Project Officer provides effective administration and project management of water programs and projects. The role provides advice and high quality customer service in response to water related enquiries, issues and activities that may impact on the sustainability of water resources within the SAAL region, including supporting decision-making for Water Affecting Activities to ensure consistency with legislation, water policies and other statutory responsibilities.

The position takes direction from the Senior Water Resource Officer and works closely with the water project team to assist with delivery of water projects, environmental water planning and monitoring programs, ensuring that community activities are delivered efficiently and effectively.

The Water Project Officer works with volunteers, community and industry to develop projects, activities or initiatives that increase the awareness and/or participation of the community in the identification or implementation of sustainable water resource management and adoption of best water practices.

**Key Outcomes**:

- Provide high quality technical advice and customer service, both written and verbal, in response to enquiries, issues and urgent matters relating to the management of water resources, including advice sought from technical and specialist staff.
- Contribute to strategic planning processes and support the formulation of policy relevant to key water related issues.
- Represent (where appropriate) the SAAL region on committees, groups and networks to ensure the region has access to current data, technology, directions, standards, tools and information and to facilitate communication and information sharing.
- Establish effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders including Dept. for Environment and Water experts, pastoralists, mining and industry groups, other state government agencies and the community and ensure relevant stakeholders are informed of water management policies and issues and/or have the opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation or review of these policies or issues.
- Support and administer water resource management programs/projects, at appropriate stages from planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation, to achieve objectives and priorities.
- Manage delivery of field projects including procurement of services and contract management in line with Board policy and procedures,
- Field data collection, management, presentation and reporting.
- Collaboration and assistance with team members to implement team learning and improvement initiatives and commitment to ongoing development of professional knowledge and capability.
- Develop and support projects, activities or initiatives that increase the awareness and/or participation of the community and industry in the identification or implementation of sustainable water resource management and adoption of best practice water management.

**Special Conditions**
- May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties.
- Current class “C” drivers licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
- Intrastate and remote area travel is required, including travel in light aircraft.
- Demonstrates ability to work alone and be self-reliant.
- Some out of hours work is required, necessitating occasional overnight stays.
- Position based in Adelaide with regular short trips to Port Augusta, with flexible working arrangements to be negotiated.
