You will spend your days:

- Assessing the potential for any reprisal action against disclosures, and implementing appropriate prevention measures.
- Leading a team of Authorised Officers providing guidance and mentoring as needed.
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including members of the Australian Defence Force, the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Office and Senior Executive.
- Planning and delivering ongoing system improvements in anticipation of updated legislation being implemented by Government.
- Enabling good-delegated decision making based on sound judgement and evidence, within legislated timeframes.

We currently have one vacancy based in Canberra ACT. The role offers flexibility in hours and is open to full time and part time applicants. We will also be establishing a merit list for future vacancies.

**About our Team**
The Directorate of Public Interest Disclosures is a small team of professionals that assess and investigate disclosures made under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act). We sit within the Defence Integrity Division and are required to engage with various Defence stakeholders at all levels. The PID Act is a framework for the disclosure and investigation of serious wrongdoing in the Commonwealth public sector. The Defence Public Interest Disclosure Scheme provides a statutory reporting mechanism for current and former Defence officials (APS, ADF and contractors) to report suspected wrongdoing. Investigations conducted by the Directorate of Public Interest Disclosures are in line with Australian Government Investigation Standards and Commonwealth Ombudsman guidelines. The investigations are considered administrative and generally conducted from the office in Canberra.
- Accountable: You will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role, providing governance and assurance of the Authorised Officer Assessments under the PID legislation. You will be accountable for organising your workflow, leading a team, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, and developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Research, Analysis and Risk Management: You will be adept in researching and analysing information, probing for clarity, producing solutions, making judgements and have the ability to think systematically. This includes the ability to research and analyse activities to identify and address issues raised through PID disclosures including managing possible reprisal action.
- Communication and relationship management: You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to leverage interpersonal skills to build and sustain productive relationships (internal and external) with team members and actively participate in team-work and group activities. You will be required to actively manage key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
- Commitment to Integrity: As an Assistant Director within the Defence Integrity Division you will be someone who can exemplify and promote Integrity and commitment to Defence Integrity and APS Code of Conduct standards.
