Adelaide Region SA, Australia Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) Full time

**The Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch**

The Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch conducts investigations into anti-competitive conduct and takes enforcement action, with a particular focus on the financial services sector. It also conducts an ongoing program of financial services market studies and advocacy.

While this branch has a specific focus on financial services, it is responsible for enforcement work that relates to potential breaches of the competition provisions of the CCA more generally.

The Branch is one of three within the Competition Division of the ACCC. The Competition Division has primary responsibility for promoting competition in Australian markets. It does this by educating consumers and businesses about their rights and responsibilities and by providing a strategic enforcement response to potential breaches of the law.

**Role and Duties**

We are recruiting for several APS5 Analyst / Investigator positions within the Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch.

Under the supervision of an Assistant Director and/or a Senior Analyst / Senior Investigator, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team, Analysts / Investigators are responsible for conducting competition investigations and analysis such as:

- investigating potential breaches of the competition provisions of the CCA
- conducting market studies in the financial services sector, and/or related advocacy and policy work.

The work of Analysts / Investigators will, depending on the role, include obtaining and assessing evidence and data, interviewing witnesses, briefing legal and economic advisers, as well as preparing and presenting updates and recommendations to Commissioners and relevant internal Committees.

You will need to be able to work flexibly to plan, organise, and prioritise a demanding workload to meet deadlines. The ability to work as part of a team is crucial.

Depending on the specific role, as an Analyst / Investigator, under broad direction from your supervisor, your work may involve:

- investigating, researching, analysing and evaluating possible contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010
- conducting competition analysis as part of market studies and related advocacy and policy work
- working within a team of investigators, legal advisers, economists, analysts, and other specialists responsible for providing input into competition cases, matters and market studies
- collecting, collating, and analysing information and data from disparate sources, and exercising judgement to identify the best sources of such information
- gathering evidence using a range of investigative techniques
- participating in interviews with complainants, witnesses, market participants, industry groups, State and Commonwealth regulators, and consumer groups
- undertaking research and analysis into specific industry sectors to assess competitive or consumer welfare effects of particular conduct
- drafting legal documents including statutory notices
- preparing reports and recommendations for consideration by senior management
- drafting reports to Government on findings from market studies
- contributing to the broader work of the Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch, and the Competition Division.

**How to apply**

When preparing your statement of claims, please take into consideration the role and duties, and detail instances from your past that demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria.

**Salary**: $80,893 to $85,774 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation)

**Contact Officer**: Kate Mahon, (02) 6243 1205

**This role is available on a full time, part time or job share basis.
