The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking a Legal and Governance Manager to join our Legal and Governance team.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is responsible for the College’s governance, contracts, compliance legal and risk functions to ensure operational transparency, accountability, and compliance with statutory obligations.

Oversee the provision of advice in relation to the legal and risk implications of all operations of the College, including but not limited to litigation, policies and procedures, management of complaints, disputes and appeals by Trainees, International Medical Graduates and Fellows, ethical and professional conduct matters, membership determinations by resolution, contracts, intellectual property and legislative compliance and privacy.

**This role has specific focus to**:

- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in relation to professional standards within the practice of psychiatry within Australia and New Zealand.
- Provide support for managing court proceedings, legal matters (Medical Board of Australia), Freedom of Information Act requests and subpoenas.
- Provide advice on College decisions or transactions with a view to minimising risks and maximising legal rights while considering the position of the College.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to support the Board, CEO and members of the College.
- Formulate and implement organisational strategy and policy to embed governance across the College, which enables execution to drive performance and mitigate potential compliance and reputational risks for the organisation.
- Provide people leadership, management and coordination for the activities of the College’s governance, contract management, compliance, risk and business support functions.
- Influence the College’s ability to maintain high-quality governance and risk systems that support transparent and effective decision-making Provide high level guidance and undertake proactive action to ensure the College’s compliance with legislation and the highest standards of corporate governance are achieved and maintained

**The successful applicant will demonstrate**:

- An undergraduate degree in law, with minimum 5 years’ experience
- Extensive understanding of corporate governance, risk management, compliance, quality assurance and business systems and processes or related fields and practical experience developing and implementing relevant strategies and frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and transforming governance operations resulting in positive change.
- Demonstrated experience to plan, prioritise and manage competing timeframes to deliver outcomes within deadlines.
- Experience preparing reports of a paralegal nature that demonstrate high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience providing executive officer/secretariat support to a board or committee.
- Ability to interpret policies and regulations, and the ability to adapt communicative styles to communicate processes to different stakeholder groups.
- Ability to explain and to advocate for College procedures and work with key stakeholder groups to assist them to understand and appreciate College appeals regulations and mechanisms.
