An Executive Officer plays an integral role within IT in providing advanced executive support to the Chief Information Officer. The role entails providing support and advice to the Chief Information Officer to facilitate effective decision making and strategy development and implementation, structured communication from the CIO to the rest of the IT team, the University and external stakeholders, and timely responses by IT to requests from senior stakeholders across the University. The Executive Officer significantly contributes to strategic and operational projects across IT, supporting the delivery of IT goals. The role reports to Chief Information Officer, and has no direct reports.

**Specific accountabilities for this role include**:

- Proactively advise, influence and contribute to the business planning and objectives of the IT Department whilst exercising discretion, initiative and confidentiality at all times.
- Support the Chief Information Officer to manage and deliver strategic and operational goals through the provision of research support, strategic advice, project management and the development of policies, procedures and proposals.
- Direct and oversee requests for information or support from senior stakeholders across the University.
- Use superior interpersonal communication skills to anticipate the requirements of the Chief Information Officer Team to maintain executive stakeholder relationships, while exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Coordinate and/or develop documentation e.g. presentations, board papers, business unit papers, Executive Team agendas and action Items for CIO as required.
- Undertake ad-hoc projects aligned with the IT Department
- Manage key UNSW IT initiatives, e.g. reward and recognition system, lead implementation of the UNSW IT Health and Safety Plan, and Implement the Culture, Learning & Development plan for staff.
- Develop and maintain networks and relationships with stakeholders and key staff within UNSW IT, Divisions/Faculties and across the University.
- Ensure the planning for, and follow up of team meetings, special events, away days, social events, volunteering activities are organised to a high standard and all preparation documents are distributed beforehand in a timely manner.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
- Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility. Skills and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.

- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Proven experience in project management in higher education or equivalent level of knowledge gained through education/training and/or experience.
- High level organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proven organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong initiative and a proactive approach to driving process improvement.
- Ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated finance acumen, with the ability to develop, articulate and explain business cases and budgets.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
