**Role Description/Criteria**
**Key Responsibility**
Use knowledge of teaching and the student experience along with support and training from the Department of Education and University of Melbourne to boost the capacity and capability of teachers’ mental health literacy, help support teachers to know when and how to refer deaf and hard of hearing students internally within the College and drive new mental health and wellbeing initiatives across the school.
**Role**
- Embed evidence-based training and resources across the school to build the capability of staff to better identify and support students
- Provide support to individual teachers in the classroom with primary deaf and hard of hearing students who have been identified as in need
- Create clear pathways for deaf and hard of hearing students who may need further assessment and intervention within the school and to external community-based services
- Use informed referral pathways to strengthen linkages between the school and community services
- Work proactively with the Heads of Campus and partner school health professionals to engage in appropriate mental health support
- Work proactively with the Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing in implementing the whole-school approach to mental health and well-being following PBL (Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour for Learning)
- Communicate to parents and the school community about mental health initiatives.
**Key Selection Criteria**
**SC1** Understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children, particularly students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
**SC2** Demonstrated sound knowledge of the learning and wellbeing needs of deaf and hard of hearing students, including those with additional needs.
**SC3** Knowledge of how to engage students in learning and facilitate best educational practice
**SC4** Demonstrated ability to inform and influence the work of others involved in the engagement, mental health, wellbeing or learning of children and young people.
**SC5** Demonstrated ability to support a student's mental health, wellbeing or learning by developing and maintaining connection with external services
**SC6 **Respect for the Catholic ethos of the College
**Commitment to Child Safety**
The successful applicant will:
- Be familiar with and comply with the school's child-safe policy and code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety.
- Assist in the provision of a child-safe environment for students.
- Demonstrate duty of care to students in relation to their physical and mental wellbeing.
**Who May Apply**
Qualified Teachers of the Deaf holding VIT registration
**Classification**
As per Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2022.
- Packaging (tax free) of up to $15,900 per annum of salary available resulting in significantly higher take home pay._
