**What you'll be doing**

The overall purpose of the Aboriginal Health Worker (Immunisation) is to improve timely immunisation coverage in Aboriginal children.
This position will access the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) data for Aboriginal child immunisation records, facilitate liaison and build relationships between relevant parties including communities, parents, Aboriginal Medical Services, other immunisation providers and other stakeholders and assist in the delivery of strategies to improve timely Aboriginal immunisation coverage.

Additionally, the Aboriginal Health Worker (Immunisation) will contribute to the broader immunisation portfolio.

**Talent Pool**

Applicants holding temporary visas with working rights may be considered for a temporary appointment up to the expiry date of their visa. However, this option is only available when no suitable applicant for a permanent appointment is identified.

A National Police Check (criminal history record check) is a requirement for all new appointments to NSW

Health and will be undertaken on preferred applicants, with the informed consent of the applicant.

This role is a **Category A **role. Preferred applicants will be reviewed for compliance and required to maintain compliance with the screening, assessment and vaccination requirements, relevant to your position, as outlined in NSW Health policy directive on Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases.

For positions designated as child-related employment, or positions that may result in proximity to children, you will be required to obtain a Working with Children clearance number from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

Please note that a volunteer WWCC (which is free) cannot be used for paid employment.

**Selection Criteria**
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. (An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977)
- Preferred experience in a government or community organisation dealing with community or health issues.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities living in Illawarra and Shoalhaven and the ability, willingness and commitment to engage with these communities.
- Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
- Preferred well developed computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and/or experience with databases.
- Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in communicating with health professionals and community members deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to organise tasks, assign priorities and meet deadlines.
- Current NSW drivers licence.
