Distribution Centre Leader

Melbourne, Australia Labourpower Recruitment Services Full time

**Company Background**:Our client is a privately owned wholesale distribution company. It operates from distribution hubs throughout Australia, with our Head office located in Melbourne, VIC.

The Group’s main activity is the distribution of products in a variety of market sectors, including Automotive and Marine, Industrial, Blind and Awning, Shade and Architectural structures, and agricultural crop protection; but is also a supplier of Commercial floor covering, acoustic walling and upholstery fabrics targeted at the architectural sector.

**Melbourne**

The Distribution Centre Leader will lead the Melbourne team in a brand new facility that is 8,000 square metre location and a significant investment in new racking, forklifts and storage systems.

Our previous success in operations was built on the experience and knowledge of our people and you will lead and own the change of implementing procedures and systems that will drive our next period of success.

Our relocation to Dandenong South has meant high turnover in the warehouse team so you will need to galvanise and energise this new team in a new era and regime that excels in compliance of quality, safety and efficiency.

This will be a hands on role where you will need to quickly learn our current practices and product nuances, train and direct team members whilst maintaining and improving our current deliverables - daily receiving in, put away, picking, packing and despatch of orders.

**You**

You will be an experienced warehouse and distribution leader that has experience in and a passion for transformation. This is not a ‘maintenance’ role but a challenge where you will be leading change across multiple levels.

You will be a leader that thrives on owning the details of our daily program that is in total control of all facets of the operation but you will not succeed by trying to do it yourself. You will be able to drive success through strong daily planning and systems and routines that are owned by your team leaders that you are continually developing, coaching and managing.

You will be a problem solver that is able to partner with other leaders in Customer Service, Sales, Finance and Supply Chain to identify and resolve the root causes of errors and inefficiencies.

You will have a sense of urgency and energy that will create and maintain momentum in change.

You will have excellent commercial and business acumen being able to negotiate with external suppliers, reduce costs and manage the financial implications of your decisions.

***The System**

***We currently operate on a Microsoft ERP and a bespoke inventory management system. We have committed to moving to a newer version of the Microsoft ERP and the introduction of a new warehouse management system that will introduce bin locations and other opportunities that will also require considerable changes and in some cases work arounds to our current practices.

You will be the key leader in the project team for operations and will be able to influence and decide on the specifics of the changes and the implementation and training plan required.

You will be experienced in the introduction of major system changes and be excited about the opportunity that this will bring to your operation and be able to overcome and reverse any opposition, resistance or fear of the change.

**Requirements**:

- Experience working within an agile environment, bonus if you’ve previously implemented warehouse management systems.
- Willingness to be a hands-on leader when required.
- Direct experience in dealing with customer needs and expectations.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Capable of providing high quality reporting to all relevant stakeholders.
- An understanding of cost management and the need to manage resources.
- Staff management, rostering, and resource allocation skills.
- An ability to plan workflows with the objective of maximising operational efficiencies.
- High Reach/Order Picking Forklift experience and current licenses (up to 9 metres racking).
- RF scanning experience.
- Physically capable of undertaking repetitive manual handling tasks (lifting 20-30kg)
- A positive attitude and pro-active team player.

Please note only shortlisted candodates will be contacted
