The Team
The position of Principal Economic Analyst forms a part of the Policy and Strategy Branch (PSB) within the Skills and Employment (SE) group. Policy and Strategy Branch (PSB) leads the policy settings, performance monitoring and budget management for the Victorian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. PSB partners across jurisdictions to influence strong skills outcomes though a contemporary national VET system. The branch influences and collaborates in policy design across the Department portfolios to achieve goals for all learners including cohorts of focus, using different system levers. PSB engages across the whole government to lead policy coordination for SE and contributes to strategic projects of SE priority.
The Role and about you
Reporting to the Manager, Expenditure, Forecasting, and System Settings, the Principal Economic Analyst is responsible for forecasting expenditure on training activity, advising on pricing and subsidy and waiver rate changes, and estimating the impact of policy changes on delivery and expenditure (to inform expenditure forecasting).
Utilising an advanced understanding of the Victorian training system to extract and present data and analysis, the Principal Economic Analyst will need to formulate in-depth advice and recommendations. The successful applicant will need to use these insights to produce well-written advice to promote the effective management of the government funded training system.
The Principal Economic Analyst will also be responsible for preparing submissions to cabinet committees as required. This position sits within the Expenditure, Forecasting and System Settings Team within the Budget, Performance and Data Branch, contributing to a high-performing and dynamic team.
A relevant degree in Economics and Statistic would be well regarded.
