**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Manager Investigations - Metropolitan Melbourne Area, the Specialist Investigator is a senior member of a team responsible for conducting intelligence-led investigations into environmental crime (relating to pollution and waste) across Metropolitan Melbourne Area, proactively targeting high risk offenders to systematically identify and prevent environmental harm from occurring and ensuring that those that break environmental laws are held to account.

**In this role you will**:

- Lead and role model high standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity.
- Manage the allocated resources, budgets, contribute to business and project planning and reporting.
- Lead the planning and conduct of complex investigations into environmental crime related to pollution and waste and bring those that break environmental laws to account.
- Use innovative and proven techniques to prevent and detect environmental crime related to pollution and waste, targeting high risk offenders.
- Lead close collaboration with other investigators, regional operations teams, Legal Branch, Data Analytics and Intelligence Unit and other parts of EPA in delivering EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities.
- Ensure the conduct of investigations and the prosecution of cases ensures the optimal use of EPA resources, is aligned to strategic priorities and is in the public interest.

**Skills and Experience**:

- A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in investigations, law or a related discipline is desirable.
- Extensive senior level experience and a record of achievement in the management and conduct of preventing, detecting, and investigating crime.
- Current EPA Authorised Officer and Informant is desirable.
- Knowledge of contemporary techniques for the conduct of proactive and reactive investigations.
- An understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
