About Us
The Family Violence Practice Leadership team (within the Family Violence and Mental Health Branch) drives family violence practice consistency and excellence within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and collaboratively across the Victorian Government. Key priorities for family violence reform are identified by the Royal Commission into Family Violence and the 10 Year Family Violence Action Plan.
The Training Officer position will be part of this team, led by the Family Violence Practice Manager. The role will do critical work to deliver high-quality training on family violence, including promoting family violence awareness, practice uplift, professional development, and culture change across DJCS. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a genuine passion to make a difference and help reduce rates of family violence in society.
What does a Training Officer do?

**The Training Officer will primarily be engaged in**:

- delivering training modules on family violence to DJCS staff, with a focus on training staff who work in the adult custodial environment
- contributing to writing and developing training modules
- working closely with other trainers in the team and receiving substantial support from the team to learn the training modules and practice their delivery.

The position will work across all divisions of DJCS in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders and will require travel.
What skills should a Training Officer have?

**The Training Officer should be able to**:

- Demonstrate experience in facilitating engaging and informative training sessions to adult learners
- Demonstrate an understanding of family violence dynamics, theory, and best practice approaches, as well as familiarity with the Victorian family violence sector and current reform work
- Show an understanding of, or have experience within custodial environments (desirable)
- A strong ability to build a supportive and cooperative team environment and engage other teams to share information in order to understand or respond to issues
- A strong ability to prepare and deliver logical sequential and succinct presentations, and use media appropriate to the audience to develop an understanding of the topic
- A strong ability to provide frank and honest feedback/advice to others, as well as listening when ideas are challenged, and seek to understand the nature of criticism and respond constructively.

**Qualifications**:

- A Certificate IV in work-place training and assessment is desirable
- A qualification in the fields of social and community services, criminal justice, health and human services or similar is preferred.
