The Role

As an Operations & Maintenance Officer, reporting to the Waterways & Catchments Services Manager, you will be based in Bangholme and oversee operations in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas. In this role, you will serve as a caretaker and manager of the region's waterways and drainage systems, working harmoniously within a specific geographic area. Your key responsibilities include:

- Managing and maintaining the natural and built assets that comprise our waterways, wetlands, retarding basins, and underground pipes.
- Ensuring a prompt and empathetic response to maintenance issues and service requests related to waterway and catchment services, including tasks like grass cutting, managing hazardous trees, addressing erosion, and resolving drainage concerns.
- Building strong collaborative relationships with local government and other agencies to enhance service delivery.
- Supporting incident response activities in the waterways and catchment areas during business hours, as well as being part of a rostered (paid) out-of-hours duty arrangement.
- Nurturing a culture that prioritizes the safety and well-being of yourself, your team, colleagues, the community, and partners. This encompasses identifying, managing, and reporting any hazards, as well as actively participating in improvement initiatives.

Your Skills and Experience
- Experience and expertise in waterway, civil, drainage, and/or land asset management and maintenance.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, allowing you to communicate and negotiate with a wide array of people within Melbourne Water, external organizations, and the general public. Your ability to handle potential conflicts with grace and empathy stands out.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling you to identify issues and exercise sound judgment in determining effective management solutions for various waterway, drainage, and land management situations.
- A proactive mindset, with a focus on solutions and continuous improvement. Your resilience and determination empower you to overcome challenges.
- Strong multitasking abilities, enabling you to respond to multiple demands concurrently.
- Willingness to complete medical and police checks, along with the requirement to possess swimming skills due to the proximity to water.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
