**About the role**
The position reports to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations and works within a small team, operating with a degree of autonomy. The Employee Relations Consultant provides high level advice and support to a wide variety of clients across the University in relation to performance management, grievances, change management and complex people management issues. The Employee Relations Consultant will liaise with external stakeholders, including unions, universities, professional bodies and external service providers.

**Role Responsibilities**

Under broad direction, the Employee Relations Consultant will provide high level support to all clients including:

- Contribute to the delivery of flexible, robust and best practice Employee Relations projects, ensuring issues are managed and objectives are met.
- Provide responsive and expert HR advice to supervisors and staff on complex employment issues, particularly in relation to performance management, misconduct, grievances, dispute resolution and industrial relations.
- Research and prepare written advice for clients on complex HR issues which is authoritative, responsive, complete, and timely.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Employee Relations, reviewing systems and processes to minimise complexity and improve people management outcomes and making recommendation on systems and frameworks to assist staff within Colleges and Divisions.
- Contribute to projects and/or policy groups to develop improved HR practice outcomes
- Perform other duties as required, consistent with the classification level of the position and in line with the principle of multi-skilling.
- Comply with all corporate policies and procedures, and in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity.

**Required Skills & Knowledge**
- Experience working in an HR/ER team delivering services to internal client stakeholders is essential.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary HR/ER practices and an ability to research and analyse an issue. Relevant qualifications are highly desirable.
- An aptitude for developing practical solutions and solving problems in a client service environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, working both with minimum of supervision and within team environment.
- Expertise in the use of modern software and/or HR information systems, including the ability to generate complex reports with particular attention to accuracy and detail.
- Formal training in grievance handling and investigations would be highly regarded
