- $115,996 - $128,200
**About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations**
We enable access to quality skills, training and employment services to support Australians find secure work in fair, productive and safe workplaces - supporting individuals and our nation to prosper.
**The Role**
Workplace relations is a dynamic policy area, which is frequently at the forefront of national policy debates. The Workplace Relations (WR) Group supports the Australian Government’s workplace relations agenda through the development of policy advice, administering key workplace relations programs and engaging with government, industry and community stakeholders.
The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations has committed to implementing the Government’s extensive Secure Australian Jobs Plan. Key reform priorities focus on further measures to support workers in low paid, female dominated industries; supporting workers employed through labour hire companies; criminalising wage theft and extending the powers of the Fair Work Commission to include ‘employee-like’ forms of work, to better protect people from exploitative and dangerous working conditions. The Government is also focused on improving work health and safety outcomes for workers.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated Executive Level 1 officers to assist with leading the development of these meaningful reforms and supporting their delivery.
Although most of these positions are based in Canberra, other locations/remote working will be considered on request.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Safety and Industry Policy Division:

The division is responsible for:
- Work health and safety policy matters, including mental health, sexual harassment, asbestos and silicosis, COVID-19 and safety in the gig economy, as well as representing the Commonwealth policy view on Safe Work Australia,
- Workers’ compensation arrangements, including under the Comcare and Seacare schemes,
- The policy framework for bargaining, including enterprise agreements and industrial action,

- Sector-specific workplace relations matters and advice, including in respect to industrial disputes,

- External consultation and tripartite engagement on development and implementation of workplace reforms.
Employment Conditions Division:
The Employment Conditions Division is at the forefront of providing high-quality policy advice to support the Government’s workplace relations agenda.
We have policy responsibility for the minimum terms and conditions of employment through the National Employment Standards, modern awards and protections against termination, discrimination and harassment that cover the employment of millions of employees and employers across Australia, with a particular focus on women, casuals and part-time workers.
We provide whole of government advice on the intersection of employment conditions with skills, training and education, discrimination, and superannuation, as well as targeted measures to boost the participation of jobseekers and indigenous Australians. We represent Australia internationally and work closely with unions and employer associations to improve the working conditions for workers in our region.
Our work is diverse and interesting including:
- Big-picture reforms to address complex issues such as the gender pay gap and emerging forms of work,
- Developing the Government submission to the Annual Wage Review,
- Leading international policy statements at the United Nations International Labour Organisation on behalf of Asia Pacific countries,
- Working across government and with industry stakeholders on identifying opportunities for regulatory technologies to improve the usability of the workplace relations system,
- Developing and advising on legislation including contributing to High Court cases,
- Monitoring and participating in major cases in the Fair Work Commission, and
- Developing and implementing initiatives to support the way Workplace Relations Group works including implementing a Project Management Toolbox, embedding collaborative practices, enhancing our work with research and a strong evidence-base, and
