**Location Profile**:
Newlands Primary School's motto is 'Through relationships we build success'. The school provides a caring and challenging learning environment for all students. Newlands Primary School is a Spanish Bilingual Immersion school. The curriculum is delivered in both through Spanish and English. As Spanish was introduced to Newlands in 2016, the students are currently at different stages of the Immersion journey, however all year levels currently undertake instruction in Spanish every day. The school values of Care, Creativity, Curiosity and Responsibility have become central to our whole school learning culture. Newlands Primary School is in the residential area of Preston West in the City of Darebin and is directly opposite the new housing development 'Coburg Hill'.

The school is located on a large allotment comprising two open grassed areas and landscaped garden areas for passive student activities, reading or games. The main school building contains 10 hexagonally shaped classrooms which have been modified into 5 double classroom spaces. Three of these double classrooms have just been re-furbished in 2019. There is also an additional building that houses four classrooms, the school library, and the school¿s Outside of School Hours program. We also have two portables hosting four classrooms. Currently, building works are in operation and are intended to be completed in 2024. Whilst this will not have a direct impact on learning, there may be some noise disruption.

The enrolment in 2023 is 370 students. Less than 10% of our students are EAL (English as an additional language), and less than 7% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our school comprises a staff of; 1x Principal, 1x Assistant Principal, 2 x Leading Teachers, 1 x Spanish Leader, 18 x full-time classroom teachers, 0.8 x full-time Music, 0.8 Performing Arts teacher, 0.8 Physical Education teacher, 0.8 Visual Arts teacher & 0.8 STEAM teacher. Our administration staff comprises of 1x 1.0 Business Manager and 1x 1.0 office assistant. We have 1 Full-time Educational Support and currently 2x 0.5 Educational Support Staff, assisting in the classrooms. Our dedicated and diverse teaching staff, plan and teach together in teams, sharing strategies, resources, and expertise. While the school does have limited access to resources the staff is fully committed to the task of teaching and providing the best possible programs for their students.

The grade structure is a multi-age structure for 2022; 8 x Foundation/1 classes, 6 x 2/3 classes, and 4 x 4/5/6 classes. The students attend weekly Specialist programs in; Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Drama, Dance & Music), Physical Education & STEAM. The school also provides opportunities for students to further develop their instrumental music skills by playing the Marimba, Keyboard, Guitar, Recorder, Ukulele or Drums through extra-curricular lessons. The students also have an opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of gardening. Our parents work closely with the teachers and students to plant and maintain our edible garden.

The school places great emphasis on supporting all students with varying levels of educational and social development.
