APS6 Senior Program Officer

Overview
Program Officers manage and work as part of small teams, responsible for planning and implementing various aspects of the department's grants programs. These roles combine project management, stakeholder engagement, risk management, communication, administration skills. Program Officers undertake grants administration using the client's Research Management System (RMS) and other related systems. Across all roles, there are opportunities to contribute to strategic projects and process improvements.

Duties and Tasks

The Senior Program Officer may be responsible for:

  • Delivering quality outcomes
  • Support and manage grant administration tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Manage multiple tasks within set timeframes using effective time management and priority setting skills
  • Interpret and consistently apply policy, procedures, guidelines and legislation
  • Be aware of and navigate situations involving complexity and sensitivity
  • Building strong relationships
  • Provide clear, accurate and timely advice to research sector and other external stakeholders, enquiries including sensitive handling of complaints and appeals
  • Foster collaboration and manage professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customer centric approach
  • Work flexibly across teams to provide support across the Branch as required
  • Managing information
  • Prepare and review documents, reports, policy briefings and other correspondence
  • Monitor budgets and ensure accurate tracking of spending and financial information
  • Present data and information to provide compelling, accurate, evidence-based reporting
  • Leading innovation
  • Propose and facilitate innovation initiatives and contribute to business improvement strategies and to change in workplace practices.
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Display sound judgement, strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly in a changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and/or programs including time management and organisational skills; and the ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand or gain the ability to understand, support and communicate the reasons for decisions and recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage high-level stakeholders, build collaborative relationships and manage staff.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in word processing, spreadsheets and databases, and the ability to learn ICT systems and support colleagues in their use.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills, effectively sharing clear and accurate information.
