Adelaide, South Australia at Full time

Play a pivotal role in building workforce capability across a high-performing team with in-house engineering and workshop manufacturing operations.

We're seeking an experienced HR Officer to support our dynamic busy workshop operations. If you thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments and love connecting great people to meaningful work – especially across trades like boilermaking, fitting, machining, and welding – this role is for you.

The Role

Reporting to the People & Culture Manager, you'll lead end-to-end recruitment and onboarding for trade and workshop roles, while supporting general HR activities across compliance, employee support, and workforce projects. You'll work closely with operational leaders to deliver practical, on-the-ground people solutions that directly impact performance and capability.

This isn't your average HR role. You'll be hands-on in finding and securing skilled tradespeople – and you'll know that the best talent often isn't actively looking. That's where your creativity comes in.

Recruitment

Full-cycle recruitment for trade, technical, and support roles

Write engaging job ads and source talent through strategic, creative channels

Build a trusted pipeline of trade talent for short- and long-term needs

Actively source talent through unconventional and strategic channels

Use innovative recruitment methods to overcome shortages and stand out in a competitive market

Onboarding

Coordinate pre-employment checks, inductions, and onboarding processes, including new employee orientation

Prepare employment contracts, letters, and manage probation reviews

Maintain accurate employee records and training registers (Employment Hero experience desirable)

Manage employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding and offboarding

Assist with visa applications and migration-related support

Support the resolution of performance issues, workplace disputes, and grievances

HR Support

Support workforce reporting and maintain accurate HR records to enable effective decision-making

Assist in ensuring compliance with employment laws, awards, and company policies

Provide administrative and coordination support to operational leaders across all HR activities

Support the implementation of HR policies and provide assistance with employee relations and compliance queries

Assist in the rollout of HR projects, including performance review cycles, engagement activities, and training coordination

Support employee engagement and development programs as directed by senior HR team members

Minimum of 5 years' experience in an HR Officer or similar generalist HR role

Strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act, NES, awards, and employment compliance requirements

Demonstrated experience in blue-collar, trades, manufacturing, mining, or defence environments

Proven ability to recruit skilled trades personnel, with an understanding of blue-collar labour markets — particularly in defence and/or mining

Skilled in managing the full employee lifecycle, including contracts, onboarding/offboarding, and conducting probation reviews

Confident in using a variety of sourcing strategies, including social sourcing, referrals, industry networks, and community engagement

Experience implementing or improving recruitment strategies, systems, or tools

Proficient in Microsoft Office, HRIS platforms, and workforce modelling tools

Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across all levels of the business

High emotional intelligence, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential matters

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, show initiative, and adapt in a fast-paced environment

A collaborative, proactive team player who thrives in a high-performance setting

High ethical standards, reliability, and full Australian working rights

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in HR or related field required.

What you'll get:

Autonomy and support to try new recruitment approaches

A role that makes a direct impact on operational capability

A collaborative HR and leadership team who value practical, solution-focused thinking

Flexibility where it counts and opportunities to grow your career in a respected, established business

If you're a recruiter who thrives on challenge, loves the buzz of finding hard-to-reach candidates, and enjoys working with real people doing real work – we want to hear from you.
