Your New Role

Classroom and learning support (CLS) is a dedicated service that provides resources and assistance to students with disabilities and additional learning needs, aiming to create an inclusive learning environment where all students can reach their full potential. CLS staff work closely with classroom teachers to identify and address students\' needs, providing tailored support and strategies such as direct instruction, small group work, assistive technology, and behaviour management techniques. CLS also offers professional development to teachers to implement effective inclusive practices.

  • Assist teachers and students in and outside the Learning Spaces
  • Assist with the supervision of small groups and/or individual students on activities, as directed by the teacher
  • Undertake specific tasks with individuals or small groups of students under the guidance of the teacher
  • Toileting and supervising students during break times (on a shared roster)
  • Support the students and/or teachers in the use of technology
  • Assist students with physical, medical or mobility challenges

Essential Criteria
  • An understanding of and commitment to the ideals of Catholic Education.
  • Skills in supporting students in a secondary school setting through a positive behaviour for learning framework.
  • Awareness of Personalised Planning and differentiated learning.
  • Awareness of supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and competency in cultural sensitivity.
  • Awareness of supporting English Language Learners and competency in cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in web-based applications found in the contemporary school setting, such as Google Apps for Education.
  • High level analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • A bias for action and improvement.
  • An ability to work as part of a team and contribute positively to staff professional culture.
  • NSW Working with Children Check
  • Successful Candidate to undertake a National Criminal History Check
  • Accreditation for Support Staff in a Catholic School (Category A, Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga) or willing to achieve.
Desirable Criteria
  • Certificate IV in Education Support or willingness to study within 12 months of appointment.
  • Training or experience in delivering literacy and/or numeracy intervention programs such as MultiLit or QuickSmart.
