National Patient Safety Lead for Procedural Safety

Ramsay Health Care is hiring a National Patient Safety Lead – Procedural Safety and Clinical Risk to drive procedural safety and clinical risk initiatives across its hospital network. This leadership role will focus on enhancing clinical governance, improving compliance, boosting situational awareness, and advancing patient outcomes. The role covers both surgical and non-surgical procedures, ensuring consistent standards, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement. It offers a strategic opportunity to shape and embed national patient safety strategies into all aspects of procedural care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or support procedural incident reviews and clinical risk assessments.
  • Monitor and report on procedural safety metrics, adverse events, and patient feedback.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and quality improvement initiatives to enhance procedural safety.
  • Collaborate with hospital teams to promote safe practices in procedural areas.
  • Contribute to the Ramsay Health Care Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Framework, focusing on procedural governance.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for benchmarking and national safety initiatives.
  • Work with the National Clinical Governance Unit to align on strategic priorities, risk mitigation, and quality improvements.
Essential
  • Current registration with AHPRA.
  • Recent experience as either Educator, Quality Manager, Floor Coordinator, Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), or clinical leader with more than 5 years' experience overall.
  • Experience in overseeing and managing a range of specialties within the peri-operative and/or procedural care settings.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the NSQHS Standards, along with a strong understanding of clinical governance principles related to procedural safety, clinical risk management, and healthcare governance frameworks. Experience applying these standards within a hospital or healthcare setting is essential.
  • Exhibits advanced clinical expertise and skills, with extended practice informed by evidence-based methodologies.
  • Proven ability to lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams, including mentoring, problem-solving, and supporting safety and quality initiatives.
  • Demonstrates high-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clinicians, managers, and governance teams.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of procedural safety principles, including Team Time Out, Sign In/Out processes, and site verification practices, alongside a strong grasp of systems thinking and human factors as they apply to multidisciplinary procedural environments.
  • Demonstrates capability to lead and operate both independently and collaboratively within team based consultative roles, upholding clinical excellence and professionalism.
Desirable
  • Working towards or post graduate qualification in Peri-operative specialisation, health services management or quality and risk.
  • Experience leading or supporting procedural safety audits, accreditation preparation, or compliance reviews within perioperative or procedural departments.
  • Sound computer skills in MS Office suite including Excel.
  • Competence using risk management systems, e.g. RiskMan.
  • Knowledge of procedural safety protocols, including Team Time Out, Sign In/Out processes, and site verification practices.
  • Experience with serious incident investigation methodology, such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
