Overview

Senior Safety Investigator (Up to 13 months Temporary Assignment) – Join Transport for NSW as a Senior Safety Investigator, leading high-risk, complex investigations and contributing to a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities
  • Lead major safety investigations from initial response through to final recommendations, ensuring reports meet high standards before executive review.
  • Coach and support other investigators, oversee investigation processes, and ensure alignment with national standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with frontline leaders to guide local investigations and embed learnings across the organisation.
  • Engage with stakeholders to maintain a consistent and trusted approach to safety investigations with external partners and Regulators.
  • Lead critical safety communications, including lessons learned and incident reviews, to shape key messages across the business.
About You
  • Experienced investigator with a sharp analytical mind, capable of navigating complex issues with balanced judgement and integrity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, tailored to the audience, to ensure insights are understood and actionable.
  • Knowledge and experience in safety investigations, preferably within rail, transport, or other high-risk industries; able to lead and coach others in investigation methodologies and just culture principles.
  • Solid understanding of Rail Safety National Law and relevant WHS legislation; qualifications in safety, WHS, risk management, or rail operations are a plus.
