About the Opportunity:

The Patient Safety Manager role at Liverpool Hospital is responsible for overseeing all aspects of patient safety including coordination of incident management, leading serious adverse event reviews, and fostering a resilient and reliable Healthcare Safety Culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.

The Patient Safety Manager overseas the Patient Safety team who promotes open disclosure, builds staff capability in safety systems and supports quality improvement initiatives to deliver reliable safe care.

What You'll be Doing

To provide leadership, authority and delegation to influence clinical practice changes in relation to provision of safe patient care across Liverpool Hospital.

This position is expected to have the necessary degree of clinical knowledge, expertise and experience to influence and guide senior clinicians to implement the required recommendations to improve patient safety systems across the wide range of clinical services. This position is expected to have the ability to evaluate the outcome of implementations and adjust direction as appropriate.

Where You'll Be Working:

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications or other qualifications and/or experience related to Patient Safety in an acute care setting.
  2. Current authority to practice with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a registered nurse (Division 1) - only applicable if graded as a Nurse Manager.
  3. Demonstrated understanding and experience in application of clinical practice improvement and continuous Quality improvement and the ability to facilitate clinical practice innovation.
  4. Experience in leading or implementing patient safety and quality systems in line with the MoH Incident Management Framework including IIMS database, conducting and writing up RCA and other investigations.
