Overview

Our client is a leading national distributor with a strong presence across Australia, supplying premium products to a wide network of retailers and partners. They are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the finance team on a contract basis in their North Melbourne office.

Base pay range

$75,000.00/yr - $85,000.00/yr

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will support the wider finance team across transactional accounting, reconciliations, and month-end tasks. The position is ideal for a hands-on Assistant Accountant who enjoys variety, working to deadlines, and being part of a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support end-to-end accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice entry and supplier/customer queries.
  • Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Assist with bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support payroll processing and related accounting journals.
  • Assist with month-end close activities and reporting.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and provide support on finance queries.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and ad hoc finance projects.
Skills & Experience
  • 2–4 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.
  • Exposure to AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Pronto, or similar desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive team player attitude.
