Overview

First Nations Identified McGrath Cancer Care Nurse – Temporary Full Time (until 30 June 2027) at NSW Health, Broken Hill, NSW. Position Classification: Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2. Remuneration: $113243.15 - $116963.48 + Super. Hours per Week: 38. Requisition ID: REQ599912.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide support, information, and care navigation for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people with a cancer diagnosis, with a focus on remote communities within Far West Local Health District (FWLHD).
  • Work in collaborative partnership with existing FWLHD Cancer Services staff, Aboriginal Health Services (e.g., Maari Ma) and Primary Health Care providers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, Elders and Traditional Owners.
  • Provide leadership to facilitate ongoing development of clinical practice reflecting the McGrath Model of Care.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with relevant post-registration qualifications and/or at least 3 years of experience working with cancer patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically use patient clinical information to manage and navigate care, provide information and education to patients and carers/family, and escalate clinical concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to develop therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the LHD with potential for some overnight stays.
