Cairns, Queensland, Australia Department of Primary Industries (Queensland) Full time

Biosecurity Queensland plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We work tirelessly to uphold high animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, which are critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries.

Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring their safe use and compliance with legislation. Committed to developing capabilities and preparedness, we are at the forefront of protecting Queensland against biosecurity risks. The Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) program directs, facilitates, and delivers strategic actions to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.

As our Compliance Coordinator, you will provide investigative and risk management skills to help manage the impacts of invasive plants and animals. Queensland faces more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, making your efforts crucial in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity threats that impact our environment and economy.

You will know you're successful when you:

  • Identify, respond to, and investigate alleged breaches of the Biosecurity Act 2014 related to electric ants; contribute to the continuous improvement, review, and implementation of compliance strategies, plans, and procedures.
  • Manage your work priorities effectively, ensuring tasks are completed promptly and meet project deadlines.
  • Actively contribute as a member of a high-performing team.
